Pack a Safe and Tasty
Lunch for School or Work
Keep your lunch free
from bugs - bacteria bugs! You know, the kind of bugs that make
us sick. The rule of thumb is to keep hot foods hot and cold
foods cold. Don't hold foods at room temperature longer than two
hours or bugs can start to grow.
-
Use an insulated
lunch bag to keep lunch cold. Pack an ice pack or frozen
juice pack to keep foods cold.
-
Pack soup or stew
in a thermos to keep hot.
-
For a fresh lunch,
freeze whole-wheat bread or buns the night before and make
sandwiches in the morning on frozen bread.
-
Pack sandwich
toppers, like lettuce or tomato, separately from the
sandwich and add at school or work. For extra vitamin A, top
sandwiches with dark green lettuce such as romaine or
spinach, instead of iceberg lettuce.
-
For a tasty
sandwich spread, mix 1 Tbsp mayo and 1 Tbsp honey
mustard.
-
Mix 1/4 tsp
horseradish spread for a jar, with 1 Tbsp mayo for a
sandwich spread with a BITE!
