HOWLIDAY BLINGY DOG COLLAR

OMG EVERYBODY!  It's Sammy and Daisy (all grown up) in their Blingy Howliday Dog Collars. I can't wait for Daisy to get her picture with SANTA in her collar.   I made Daisy's in green and red netting with fun ribbons to match.

Sammy has an angel collar on, because he's such a GOOD BOY!  Daisy's still a bit mischievous to be called an angel!!!  Sammy's collar is made from ivory netting and netting that looks like lace.  You can't see it in the picture, but I also have gold netting in it and sparkly gold ribbon.

BTW, I'm going to be at JoAnn Fabrics on Sawmill Rd and 161 in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday December 6, 2014 from 10:00-12:00. We're making this Howliday Blingy Dog Collar and donating the dog collars to Cause for Paws dog rescue group for this organization to sell.

If you would like to have me come to one of your Groups while you make one of my projects to donate to an animal rescue group - email me.  We can SKYPE as your GROUP is making one of my projects.  Click on Stella DellaVella's Originals up above for my projects.

Here's what YOU will need:

  • Piece of elastic - 1/4 - 1/2 inch wide

  • Ribbon - Holiday colors - gold and red for Daisy's and sparkly gold ribbon for Sammy's.  Buy various widths like 1/2 inch wide, 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch.

  • 3 different colors of netting in Holiday colors - 1/4th yard of each color - green, red, off white, gold, netting with lace...YOU DECIDE, but pick 3 different colors for each dog collar you make.

Here's How YOU Can Do it:

Cut the elastic so it fits around your doggie's neck, but make sure it's about 1- 1/2  inches longer, because you will be tying netting around it.

My mom overlapped the edges of the elastic and sewed them together so they would be stronger than just tying them in a knot. You know, like shoe laces - they ALWAYS come undone.

Then take your 1/2-inch ribbon and just wrap it all around the elastic.  It doesn't have to look perfect, because you'll be tying netting over the ribbon so it doesn't show THAT much.  Sew the starting point and ending point of the ribbon so it's secure in place and won't unwrap.  My mom sews it with the sewing machine (she's better than I am).

Here's what the elastic looks like when it's all wrapped.  And REMEMBER - it doesn't have to be PERFECT!

Then I take netting and cut it so it's 2 inches wide and 12 inches long. I cut a TON - almost 100 so the collar is nice and full.  Because Annie, Bowsie, and ME are making sooo many, I cut the strips and then put them in plastic zip lock bags.  See...

And I find the middle of the netting strip (which is 6 inches) and I tie each piece of netting around the elastic.

I tie the netting strips in a knot 2 times so it's SUPER strong.

And I have different colors of ribbon in red, gold, and red/gold for the Howliday collar.  And I put all the ribbon in a plastic bag.  Here's what I found on sale at JoAnn's.  Oh and of course, I found some odds and ends ribbons at garage sales this summer!

Cut the ribbon in 8 inches, find the middle (which is 4 inches) and then tie them randomly around the collar after you've tied all the netting.

  • I  trim the pieces of netting after the pieces of netting are tied because it's just easier to tie the netting if it's in 12-inch strips.  You can decide how long you want the collar to be.

  • AND THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT'S DONE!!!! OMG!!! WTC!!!

BTW - I have the cutest ever pictures of Daisy in my first Diary.  She's in her Blingy Collar that has daisies on it!!!  OMG!!!!
