    BowWOWtastic VeggieFruitable Doggy Biscuits

a little bit of veggies ... and a little bit of fruit

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats (not the quick cooking type)
1/2 cup powdered milk
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
1/2 cup cooked mashed carrots (use baby food if you don't want to cook and mash)
1/2 cup mashed ripe pears, bananas, applesauce (use baby food as an alternative)

Combine all the ingredients in the large bowl of a mixer. Mix ingredients for 2 minutes on medium speed.

Remove the dough and divide into 2 equal portions and roll each into a ball.

Place the dough balls in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 60 minutes. This will make the dough easier to work with when cutting out the biscuits.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Flour a large cutting board or clean countertop with a light coating.

Remove one dough ball from the refrigerator. Roll out until 1/8 - 1/4-inch thick.

Using a 2 1/2 inch doggy biscuit shaped cookie cutter, cut out the biscuits.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Turn off the oven and let biscuits sit in the oven for at least one hour,  or until cool.

Makes 67 1/8-inch biscuits or 45 1/4-inch biscuits

Stella DellaVella's Helpful Hints:

You may want to refrigerate to make the dough easier to work with.  And remember, you don't have to make all the biscuits at one time.  Here's what I do.  I divide the dough into 4 balls, and freeze 3 to make at another time.  But I write Peanut Butter Dough on the bags with a permanent marker so I know what's in it.

OMG!!!  If it JUST takes TOO LONG to cut out all the cookies you can cut them all out at once.

I roll out the dough right on the cookie sheet so it looks like a rectangle.  I take a knife and make horizontal and vertical lines on the dough to make tiny rectangles, about 1/2 inch apart.  Follow the same directions, but after the rectangle cools, it breaks into pieces where you made the lines.  OMG!!! It's so much easier than making a gazillion doggy boned biscuits.
